Dehradun, 2nd December 2024 – GD Goenka Public School, Dehradun, proudly inaugurated its much-anticipated Cricket Field today in a vibrant ceremony that marked a significant milestone in the school’s commitment to fostering the overall development of its students.
The event commenced with a grand welcome of the Chief Guest, Dr. Sanjay Bharadwaj, a distinguished cricket coach and recipient of the prestigious Dronacharya Award, NIS and BCCI level 3 coach. Mentor of Cricket legends Gautam Gambhir, Amit Mishra, Unmukt Chand, Nitish Rana and many more. Dr. Bharadwaj is renowned for his exceptional contributions to Indian cricket coaching, having mentored numerous players who have gone on to represent national and state teams. His presence at the event added tremendous inspiration for both students and staff.Also gracing the occasion was Mr. Sandeep Rawat, Chairman of New Era Academy, who was warmly welcomed by the school community.
The celebrations began with the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, officially marking the opening of the new cricket field. The joyous occasion was further accentuated with the release of colorful balloons, symbolizing the start of a new chapter for the school’s sporting community.
The vibrant atmosphere continued with an array of student performances, starting with the melodious tunes of the school choir. The stage then came alive with an energetic Haryanvi Folk Dance, celebrating the region’s rich cultural heritage. The excitement peaked as Class III students wowed the audience with their impressive Dumble Drill, showcasing flawless coordination, discipline, and enthusiasm.
In his address, Dr. Sanjay Bharadwaj spoke passionately about the transformative power of sports. He shared an insightful message with the students, saying, “It is the attitude of the player that leads to success, and skills come later. Skills can always be taught, but attitude cannot be taught. “A player’s attitude is the foundation on which their success is built.” He emphasized how qualities like perseverance, teamwork, and resilience in sports help shape one’s character and contribute to lifelong achievements.” Dr. Bharadwaj encouraged students to utilize the new cricket field not just for sporting excellence but as a space for building strong, positive attitudes that would serve them well in all aspects of life.
Furthermore, Dr. Bharadwaj strongly advised the students on the importance of focus and discipline, urging them to avoid distractions in their journey towards success. He specifically mentioned that mobile phones should not be given to them during training and practice sessions, as they can become major distractions, hindering their growth both on and off the field. He said, “In today’s world, mobile phones are a constant source of distraction. To achieve success, you need to stay focused on your goals, and that means putting away distractions like mobile phones, especially during training and practice.”
Following his speech, Dr. Bharadwaj participated in an interactive session, giving students the opportunity to ask questions and learn from his wealth of experience in the world of cricket.
